Astrology in Business: How Timing Influences the Success of Decisions
The idea of using astrology in business may seem unconventional, yet the practice of choosing favorable times for important actions has existed for millennia. Muhurta is the branch of Jyotish dedicated to electional astrology: selecting a moment to perform important actions. This was used by Indian rulers when launching military campaigns, opening trade routes, and building cities.
The modern application of timing in business relies on several tools. The Dasha system shows which planet governs the current period in the life of a founder or CEO. A Jupiter period (16 years) is a time of growth and expansion. A Saturn period (19 years) is for discipline, structuring, and long-term projects. A Rahu period (18 years) brings rapid growth, but with the risk of illusions and overestimation. A Ketu period (7 years) is for inner work, spiritual seeking, and often, a departure from business.
Retrograde planets are a special warning tool. Mercury retrograde (three times a year for 3 weeks) is traditionally associated with problems in communications, contracts, and technology. Mars retrograde (once every 2 years for 2–3 months) signifies conflicts and delays in active projects. Venus retrograde affects negotiations about value and partnerships.
Muhurta for business events considers several factors: the quality of the day (Panchang), the absence of Rahu Kaal and Yama Ghanta, the Moon's position in a favorable nakshatra, the absence of retrograde ruling planets for the event, and harmonious aspects to the founder's natal chart.
